Fun with Family!

Sunshine and I had a great time visiting my family and friends in Kansas over Memorial Day weekend. She was a great traveling buddy. We spent several days with my parents. It was so nice for them to have some extended time with her since they do not get to see her all that often. It was fun for me to watch them interact with her. I think her favorite "item" at my parent's was their piano. She really enjoyed pressing the keys and hearing the resulting sound.

Sunglasses!

Sunshine and I just returned from a great trip to Kansas to visit family and friends, so I have many things to blog about. However, I thought I would start by posting a few pictures I took before we left. She is always wanting to play with my sunglasses so I thought I would get her a pair of her own. She loves to take them on and off and flip them around.

Catch Up

These past few weeks have been full and so I haven't been keeping up with e-mail, blogging, or facebook. We've been busy working on our "to-do" list. Funny thing is that I never actually make a "to-do" list with the bigger projects on it. My list just include the tasks I want to accomplish on a daily basis. I guess I just keep the bigger project list in my head. Anyways, we recently stained the concrete on our front and back porches. Neither one of us had ever done this before, but it really wasn't that hard and we like how it turned out. We also repainted our living room and rearranged it so we could have some more space. I still need to decide what I want to do with the windows, but other than that it's pretty much done. We are always working on our garden. I told T I think I might spend the entire summer pulling bermuda grass. He keeps telling me it will get better with time...I can only hope.

This past weekend we took Sunshine swimming for the first time this year. She is a lot more active than last year (of course), which makes it all the more fun. She loves to splash her Daddy and sit in the floaty that Grandpa and Nini have at their house. We also had a great time celebrating Mother's Day with T's family. We made a trip to the Rose Emporium to do some rose shopping. I love the new roses I received and I look forward to getting them planted this weekend.

Time Flies

I figured I better get some pictures posted of Sunshine's birthday before she turns two. Her first year of life has been the fastest year of mine, so I am guessing that the years will just keep flying by. The first picture is from when she was just 1 day old. I always enjoy looking back at pictures. I am amazed at how much she has changed. I notice change in her, but since I see her everyday I don't realize how much she has changed until I look at a picture.

She really enjoyed opening her cards and gifts. I think she thought of the cards as little books. She pointed at the pictures on them and waved them around.

We were able to celebrate her birthday two times. My mom, sister, and nephew came down over spring break. During her first cake eating experience she signed "more" on her own for the first time...of course it was for cake, not veggies or fruit. The second time we celebrated with T's family. The pictures below are from that evening.

Welcome Sadie!

Last week we celebrated Sunshine's 1st birthday (more pictures coming soon). We decided to give her a puppy for her birthday. She loves dogs and we wanted to introduce a dog while she was fairly young. Sadie is a Corgi and she is a sweetie. Sunshine just loves it when Sadie sniffs and licks her...I think they are going to be great friends.

One Year Ago Today

Last year at this time I was waiting. Mainly waiting for contractions to start, but also for T to get home from work. The days seem to just drag on as I struggled to find things to do (what I wouldn't give for a day like that now). My hospital bag was packed, the nursery was ready, and the house was clean.

A year ago today I can clearly remember calling T on his cell. If you know T well, you know that he is not a huge phone person, but since we were having a baby he carried his phone. He stepped out of a meeting to answer his phone, thinking it just might be time. I remember him telling me "You can't call me on this number unless it's time to go to the hospital". I had called to see what time he would be home and to let him know that I would love treat from Dairy Queen. So here we are a year later, T had the same officer-election meeting tonight and of course I called to see what time he was coming home. The best part...he brought me home a DQ blizzard to celebrate.

Fun in the Sun

We had the opportunity to spend a few days in Destin, Florida a few weeks back. T had a work related meeting, so Sunshine and I were very glad to tag along. It was so nice to be away for a few days.

We drove across Louisiana and the very southern parts of Mississippi and Alabama before we got to Florida. Most people think we are crazy, but we prefer to drive. A few things we learned about the Deep South are 1) There are a lot Waffle House Resturants (I was going to count them on the way home, but I forgot to start counting at the beginning.), 2) If you want to make decent time stay on the Interstate - coastal highways have LOTS of stop lights. and 3) They wack their crepe myrtles to the ground. (We call it "crepe murder" in BCS, but I think they can actually get away with it.)

Our favorite part of the trip was the time we spent at the beach. We went on a Sunday morning, so we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. It was beautiful and Sunshine LOVED playing in the white sand. It is so fun to watch someone respond to something without holding back their emotions. She just delighted in getting to play in the sand and we took a lot of delight in watching her.

She was to busy playing with the sand to smile for the camera...

Playing with Daddy.

Bliss!
